Honeywell reached a production milestone for one of the security industry’s most widely used wireless devices. The company, being at the forefront of the industry, has produced its 50-millionth wireless transmitter used to help security systems provide additional safety, convenience and protection for homes and businesses. The transmitter technology is used in the 5800 series of wireless security and life safety products, which includes carbon monoxide, glassbreaks, motion detectors, door contacts, and key-fob transmitters.

“In every technology sector, wireless communication continues to pave the way for innovation that makes businesses and everyday lives run smoother – the security industry is no exception,” said Ken Addy, chief technology officer, Honeywell Security. “The use of wireless intrusion technology will continue to grow, representing great opportunities for dealers offering easier installation and more-reliable protection. This production milestone is a testament to wireless and the highly visible role we expect it to continue playing in our industry.”

Today’s wireless-enabled devices are more flexible and reliable with capabilities such as sending alarms, tamper status, maintenance reminders and battery condition messages to a system receiver. The combination of extended battery life, reliable transmission over long distances and simple installation has steadily increased the number of wireless systems in the security technology industry. With Honeywell continuously working to refine and evolve the technology over the course of 15 years, the 5800 Series has grown to include more than 50 products used in residential and commercial applications.
