Honeywell’s hurricane-resistant storm curtains containing Honeywell Spectra® fiber have been certified under Florida building code to withstand winds of up to 175 mph, the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane. The roll-down curtains, called Storm-A-Rest™, are able to withstand hurricane-force winds and the impact of large, wind-borne projectiles because they contain Honeywell Spectra fiber, which is most commonly used in bullet-resistant body armor.
“It’s a testament to the strength of Honeywell’s Spectra fiber that Storm-A-Rest curtains are now certified to withstand debris propelled by the most dangerous hurricanes,” said Joe Gelo, global business director for Honeywell’s Advanced Fibers and Composites business. “It’s another example of how Spectra fiber can perform in the most demanding conditions.”
Storm-A-Rest curtains are approved under Florida’s building code for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone, which includes Dade and Broward counties. They are also approved for Wind Zone 4 and the proposed Wind Zone 5, the area within one mile of Florida’s nearly 1,200-mile coastline.
