Honeywell will provide an avionics suite, including safety and navigational equipment, wheels and brakes, and a maintenance agreement for up to 25 new Boeing 737-800 Air Europa aircraft orders, as part of a contract valued at more than $13 million.
The contract covers 12 Boeing 737-800 aircraft orders from 2010 to 2013 and options for up to 13 more. Air Europa is based in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and maintains a fleet of 32 B737-800 aircraft.
One of the technologies to be installed will be IntuVue™, Honeywell’s 3-D weather radar, which helps pilots navigate around storms, wind shears, and turbulence, giving passengers a safer, more comfortable ride.
“Airlines require products to enable efficiency and safety, and this is a perfect example of how a Honeywell product can save operators in cost of operations and provide the best possible information to pilots,” said Mike Madsen, vice president, Airlines, Honeywell Aerospace. “The IntuVue radar reduces costs by weighing less – up to 39 pounds less than competitive configurations – but also does more by improving pilot’s decision making by 26 percent over conventional radar systems.”
