Honeywell has unveiled its groundbreaking VNT™ DualBoost turbocharger on Ford’s all-new 6.7-Liter V-8 Power Stroke diesel engine. Honeywell’s newest single turbo technology delivers turbo benefits approaching those from dual-stage configuration.
Honeywell’s industry-first VNT™ DualBoost technology extracts more performance from a single turbo package by incorporating a dual-sided compressor wheel that works in a single casing. This innovative design allows a Variable Nozzle Turbine (VNT™) DualBoost turbo to drive ultra-high levels of EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) in line with 2010 U.S. emissions standards while maintaining the ability to achieve higher horsepower. In addition, the variable geometry turbine’s low thermal inertia also improves after-treatment temperature management.
The compact design of the VNT™ DualBoost turbo system also helped Ford achieve an industry first with its “inboard exhaust manifold” design for the Power Stroke engine, improving throttle response, NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) and fuel economy.
