The Honeywell Wind Turbine, a small wind energy system for residences and businesses, was named one of the “Most Brilliant Products of 2009” by Popular Mechanics magazine.
According to Popular Mechanics, small-scale wind turbines are a $156 million industry, and there was a remarkable 10,500 wind turbines sold last year – nearly a 70 percent increase for the industry.
Honeywell’s circular turbine measures just six feet in diameter and weighs 95 pounds. The turbine’s unique design allows it to generate power at wind speeds as low as two miles an hour – making it a compelling option for consumers in less-windy areas, or in locations where trees or buildings block winds.
Windtronics, based in Muskegon, Michigan, is licensing the Honeywell name for the new product.
