Dan Sheflin, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions (ACS), has been named Chairman of the Smart Grid Advisory Committee of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
NIST is the federal organization with primary responsibility to coordinate the development of protocols and standards for the development of the Smart Grid. The committee is comprised of representatives from U.S. industry, academia, and trade and professional organizations. It will advise NIST Director Patrick Gallagher on the direction of NIST Smart Grid-related programs and activities and help the agency maximize its technical contributions to modernizing and securing the U.S. electric power grid.
As Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for ACS, Sheflin is responsible for leading ACS’s global research and development programs, defining essential technology initiatives to drive growth for Honeywell, including strategic energy efficiency and Smart Grid initiatives.
Sheflin’s appointment builds on Honeywell’s growing Smart Grid expertise and capability. The company has energy and environmental controls in more than 150 million homes, 10 million buildings and thousands of industrial facilities around the world. It also has decades of experience working with utilities and their customers to lower energy consumption and costs. Honeywell is merging these capabilities to develop technology and services that empower end users to transition to a Smart Grid with minimal effort and maximum savings.
