More than 300 of Honeywell’s key customers, partners, leaders, and employees attended Honeywell China’s Technology Day, an opportunity for visitors to learn about the company’s great positions in good industries and differentiated technologies.

Honeywell’s products and solutions related to building and industrial controls, energy efficiency and generation, turbocharging, and aerospace were exhibited and interacted with at the event.

Shane Tedjarati, President and CEO of Honeywell China and India, spoke at Technology Day and emphasized the company’s expanding global presence to bring new product development, manufacturing, and service closer to customers.

“The world is placing great importance on China as the platform for global growth and this offers us good opportunities ahead,” said Tedjarati. “Together with all of you here, we have braved through the difficult times and will definitely do the same to capture the great opportunities that are to come.”

Honeywell’s guests were also invited to the Shanghai World Expo where they were introduced to the Honeywell safety, security, and energy efficiency technologies chosen to protect the properties at the World Expo 2010. A VIP tour was conducted at the USA Pavilion, where Honeywell is a sponsor and is enabling the 6,000 square meter venue to optimize energy efficient technologies for visitors’ comfort and safety.

Honeywell recently showcased its energy efficiency, security and life safety solutions with Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and Dan McElroy, the state’s commissioner of employment and economic development, in a meeting with local Honeywell executives in Minnesota.

Governor Pawlenty and Commissioner McElroy spent time at the Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions’ facility in Golden Valley, Minnesota, touring Honeywell’s Traveling Technology Experience, which was on display, and attending a briefing session with Honeywell leaders, including Paul Orzeske, President, Honeywell Building Solutions, and Joe Puishys, President, Honeywell Environmental and Combustion Controls.

“I want to thank Honeywell for their continued commitment to and investment in Minnesota, and for their leadership in the creation of green jobs,” said Governor Pawlenty. “I look forward to working with Honeywell – a Minnesota-founded company – in applying their leading edge technologies to improve energy efficiency, safety and security across Minnesota and globally.”

The group discussed Honeywell’s footprint in Minnesota, its energy efficiency and SmartGrid offerings and how Honeywell’s Energy Savings Performance Contracts can help drive the growth of green jobs for the state.

Honeywell has installed the first of two solar photovoltaic arrays for the City of Wilmington, Delaware. The work was highlighted during a commemoration event showcasing successful projects backed by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) signed by President Obama in February 2009.

The solar installations, which will consist of almost 3,400 panels, are part of a broader $14.5-million energy retrofit and renewable energy program that will decrease utility costs and greenhouse gas emissions tied to city-owned facilities and infrastructure. The program will help the city meet the environmental commitments it adopted as part of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. It is also expected to create or sustain more than 80 jobs, including work for several local contractors Honeywell hired to help complete the upgrades.

Honeywell announced that Kevin Burke, 59, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Consolidated Edison, Inc. (Con Edison), has been elected to its Board of Directors.  He will serve on the Audit and Retirement Plans Committees.

“Kevin’s extensive public company management experience and background in engineering and law make him a valuable addition to our Board of Directors,” said Honeywell Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dave Cote.  “His analytical business approach can help Honeywell build on its core strengths and further establish our great positions in good industries.  Adding his customer-focused mindset to our already strong Board is important as we continue to differentiate Honeywell through our technology offerings and build on our leadership position in energy efficiency products and services.”

Two-thirds of school districts responding to a new “School Energy and Environment Survey” from Honeywell and Education Week Research have made spending cuts or modifications as a direct result of rising energy bills. Seventy-four percent of respondents also said their districts don’t have the money to pursue energy retrofit or renewable energy projects.

These budgetary constraints and cutbacks, primarily in building maintenance and capital investment, are hurting efforts to boost efficiency and resolve schools’ long-term energy and financial concerns.

The online survey gathered input from more than 250 district administrators nationwide regarding energy management and environmental sustainability practices. More than half of respondents have scaled back, delayed or eliminated the possibility of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects due to the economic downturn. In addition, while 96 percent of survey respondents view energy management as important to their district’s long-term success, one-third reported that they do not have a strategic plan for managing energy consumption and costs.

Honeywell Chairman and CEO Dave Cote appeared on CNBC’s “Mad Money” where he talked about energy efficiency and the U.S. economy with TV show host and respected money manager, Jim Cramer.

Cramer believes the U.S., led by large corporations that provide energy-related products and supply jobs, will emerge from this economic crisis stronger than before.

“Honeywell is more profitable than anyone could have imagined it would be at this point in the business cycle and this isn’t just any old industrial company,” said Cramer. “Honeywell’s products uniquely involve the controlling and saving of energy. That’s the story here.”

Nearly 50 percent of Honeywell’s product portfolio company-wide is linked to energy efficiency and renewable energy. Simply by using the Honeywell technologies available in the marketplace today, the U.S. alone could reduce energy consumption by 15 to 20 percent and play a key role in curbing and reducing global greenhouse gas emissions.

“We need to be driving energy efficiency in the [U.S.] for two big reasons,” said Cote. “The first one is economic security. You get economic security by making sure that you’re as self-sufficient as possible in energy. The second one is you need low-cost power for an economy to compete, and energy efficiency is the lowest cost power you can get.”

Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions President and CEO Roger Fradin was featured in a recent Forbes magazine article, discussing Honeywell’s expansive energy-efficient technology portfolio.

The article titled “Green and Clean” cites Honeywell as being part of the “green gold rush in Europe” and in a leading market position in the U.S. which has “130 million buildings and 6 billion energy-hungry devices.”

“With energy controls in 150 million homes, 10 million businesses and the bulk of the world’s largest oil refineries, Honeywell is cashing in on worries over power costs and greenhouse gases. All told, 60% of sales at [Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions] come from products and services that relate to energy efficiency,” according to the article.
